Rev. James A. Price, C.P.
I am originally from Carbondale. My family lived on Fallbrook Street and I was educated at St. Rose/Sacred Heart Grade and High Schools. I received all of my sacraments at St. Rose and left Carbondale in 1983 at the age of 19 to join the Passionist order and returned here and celebrated my first Mass of Thanksgiving in 1994. In between I have been privileged to celebrate weddings and funerals of family members and neighbors and occasionally weekday Masses. I never would have imagined that I would return home to be the pastor of these two parishes that I grew up with many years ago.
For the last couple of years I have had the gift of being a Passionist missionary in Jamaica, West Indies. To be among the people of Jamaica and to see their daily struggles for the necessities of life amidst much suffering, along with a great resolve to be hopeful and grateful to God, has taught me a lot about the preciousness of life. In our mission churches we had few material resources. But we were very rich in the goodness of the people of God. The best resources of our parish communities of St. Rose and Our Lady of Mount Carmel are YOU, the beautiful people of God.
